DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN HISTORY
Requirements for Admission
Candidates for the
PhD in History must fulfill the general requirements for admission
to graduate studies at the Río Piedras Campus.
In addition, they must satisfy the following specific requirements:
- A masters degree in History or the equivalent
- A minimum grade point average of 3.00, overall and in the area of specialization
- Six credits in Historiography and Criticism,—three
credits in Theory of History, and three credits in Historical
Research Methods, or their equivalent
- Two letters of recommendation
- An essay, in accordance with the program’s instructions
- An interview with the Graduate Committee (optional)
Requirements for Graduation
Candidates must fulfill all the requirements for graduation from the Río
Piedras Campus. In addition, they must satisfy a third language requirement.
Program of Study
The main field of the doctoral program is Puerto Rico and the Caribbean; complementary fields
are Latin America and the United States; additional fields are Europe, Asia, and Africa.
