Weather Station
Middle and high school students contribute to an Internet database
for the Puerto Rico Weather Network. Thirteen Puerto Rico public
schools are involved in this outreach initiative, Education and
Climate, sponsored by the Puerto Rico Space Grant Consortium
of NASA. Students from each networked weather station measure
and upload data for wind speed, direction, temperature, relative
humidity, barometric pressure, and precipitation. Three locations
also measure solar radiation and UV index. Director of Education
and Climate, Ricardo J. Morales de Jesús, Ph.D., professor
of physical sciences at UPR, RP, also coordinates teacher training
in the field, research activities through a virtual community,
and field trips.
