On-line Bilingual Modules in RCR

Objective: To design, implement, and test ten (10) educational bilingual, on-line modules in the following topics:

Essentials of Research Ethics and Societal Implications

Module 1:   A collection of essays or readings in such themes as:

  1. Importance and social responsibility of conducting research (nanotechnology, environmental issues, biotechnology, space exploration)

  2. Fundamentals of research ethics (philosophy and moral issues)

  3. Social and economical implications of research

  4. Violation of trust and misconduct in science research

  5. History and relevant cases in misconduct in research

Mentor-Trainee Relationship and Responsibility

Module 2:  Duties and responsibilities of mentors and trainees and the nature of their relationship

Best Practices across the Professions

Module 3:   Data acquisition, management, sharing and ownership
Module 4:   Publication practices, peer review and responsible authorship
Module 5:   Collaborative science, conflict of interest and intellectual property
Module 6:   Ethics and the professions

Regulations and Support Environments

Module 7:    Research involving human subjects
Module 8:    Research involving animals
Module 9:    Bio and chemical safety
Module 10:  Federal, state and institutional policies and procedures and conditions for integrity in research environments
