Associate Dean’s Office of Academic Affairs

The Dean’s Office of Graduate Studies and Research (DEGI, for its Spanish abbreviation) has among its goals that the graduate programs of the Río Piedras Campus offer an excellent university education. The Associate Deanship of Academic Affairs at DEGI promotes the evaluation and accreditation of the graduate programs and the assessment of student learning—key elements to achieve the continuous improvement of the multiple master’s and doctoral programs offered at the Campus.

DEGI’s Deanship of Academic Affairs has taken on the challenge of developing and implementing a large-scale plan of great impact for our university, the Graduate Programs Evaluation Plan, which in turn integrates the Student Learning Assessment process. Furthermore, information is made accessible to facilitate the administrative processes corresponding to the academic area. You can also find the corresponding academic policies, process flowcharts, examples and/or forms.or administrative procedures related to course actions and processes, academic changes and the creation of new programs, periodic evaluation and program accreditations.

The development of the Associate Deanship of Academic Affairs at DEGI is aimed at innovation in graduate programs and the improvement of resources available to them.

  • Contribute to the development of DEGI’s Graduate Academic Transformation Plan, in harmony with the strategic priorities of the University of Puerto Rico and the Río Piedras Campus.
  • Keep graduate programs informed on current academic regulations.
  • Develop and implement work plans that promote a continuous cycle of evaluation of the quality and academic effectiveness, productivity and functioning of graduate programs in relation to the mission and strategic plan of the Río Piedras Campus and especially of graduate studies.
  • Support graduate programs in their professional accreditation processes.
  • Critically analyze the results of the evaluation processes and the assessment of student learning, the state of development of each program, articulate its vision for the future, and determine the strategies and resources needed to achieve its goals and objectives, in accordance with that vision.
  • Based on the evaluation findings, support graduate programs in the design and successful implementation of a development plan, aligned with those of their school and the Campus, with priorities, concrete actions and assignment of responsibilities.
  • Promote the renewal and development of a high-quality academic and professional offering, both in-person and online, that answers to the evolution of disciplines, needs, opportunities, and educational trends in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Latin America, and Hispanic communities in the United States and internationally.
  • Strengthen the academic offering of graduate and professional programs that incorporate curricular innovation, including programs in partnership with other units of the UPR System and entities at the local and international level.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance for the creation, modification, and deactivation of graduate courses.
  • Contribute to the development and updating of an official database of graduate programs that facilitates and streamlines their collection, management and analysis for informed decision-making.
  • Update and publish the Graduate Catalog.

Coordinate the processes for updating and disseminating information on the graduate education profile.
  • Publish an updated electronic version of the Graduate Studies Catalogue annually.
  • Publish and update the Academic Affairs section on DEGI’s website.
